As you know, when it comes to discounts, Apple is tighter than two coats of paint and the new iPod Touch has been no exception. However, here’s your chance to pick up one with Wi-Fi at a $40 discount. B&H Photo is featuring the 8GB model for $259 with free shipping. This model is currently $299 at the Apple store. You know all the details, 8mm thin, revolutionary Multi-Touch interface, 3.5-inch widescreen color display, Wi-Fi (802.11b/g), blah, blah, blah.
Where has this thing been hiding? LaCie has quietly released their new multimedia hard disk they’re calling LaCinema. It comes in 500GB, 750GB and 1TB flavors, spins at 7,200RPM and is extremely simple to use. Just hook it up to your computer via USB, drag and drop any of your movie, music or photo files onto it, then plug it directly into your TV for your viewing pleasure. That’s all there is to it. In addition, LaCie provides an easy-to navigate on-screen menu and convenient remote control. For connection to your TV, it supports a plethora of connections including composite video (cable included), S-Video and HD Component video with up to 1080i upscaling. It also supports even more file formats. These include MPEG1/2/4, ISO, IFO, VOB, MP3, WMA, AC3, OGG, JPEG, BMP, TIF and PNG file formats. Prices for 500GB, 750GB and 1TB run $230, $330 and $470. Amazon currently has all three flavors.
Wow, there’s nothing like a nice slab of Lucite to get your attention. Tokujin Yoshioka’s new minimalist Tofu lamp makes Rauschenberg look like Hieronymus Bosch. Yoshioka, an apprentice to Shiro Kuramata and Issey Miyake and whose works can be found in the MoMA, Vitra and Centre Georges Pompidou collections, has created an amazingly simply, clean design consisting of just methacrylate (PMMA) and aluminum. It is created using a delicate manufacturing and cutting technique and uses a halogen bulb to create a perfect square of light. Just keep those pesky guests from getting their nasty little fingerprints all over it. It currently comes in two sizes and can be had for $560 or $640.
Looking to pick up that new cell phone? I understand, but just make sure you’re responsible about discarding the old one. I know you’ve heard about e-cycling many times here before, but apparently not everyone is getting it. How many phones do you think we are talking about here? Take a guess. How about 426,000 per day! What’s worse is that only about 20% are recycled. Those little bastards are chockfull of toxic compounds the EPA likes to call “persistent and bioaccumulative.” We’re talking about arsenic, lead, nickel-cadmium and brominated compounds. Many of these enter the environment when discarded cell phones are incinerated or when rainwater leaches the materials out of land-filled phones. Well now there are no more excuses. Here is a list of 50 ways that VOIP-News has graciously put together. Just as an aside, while doing research for this, I came across these great images by artist Chris Jordan. They’re pretty amazing.
It was only a matter of time. With its svelte little figure and shiny good looks, you knew it wouldn’t be long before the mean girls started pickin’ on the new MacBook Air. I have to admit, even if you’re a devout Mac fanboy, I think you will find this parody funny. Before you get upset, you should know that this film was edited using a MacBook. On the serious side, if you want to see what the pundits are really saying about the Air, click here to get the full poop.

Don’t forget about J&R! We have the ipod touch’s at the same price with free shipping as well!
